    Dr. Curtis Akerman



    Dr. Curtis Akerman obtained his Honours Bachelor of Science degree with Minors in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Waterloo in 1995 and graduated from SUNY College of Optometry in New York City in 1999. He has been certified in therapeutic management of ocular disease including glaucoma treatment since he graduated and is licensed to practise full scope Optometry in Ontario.

    After graduation, Dr. Akerman practised in New York City for three years before moving to Scottsdale, Arizona where he provided comprehensive vision care for the next eight years in both private practice and hospital settings. He relocated to Milton in 2010 with his wife and three children and has been providing service in private practices in the GTA ever since.

    Dr. Akerman has experience in glaucoma research and has lectured at National Optometric conferences in the United States about advances in glaucoma care and technology. While in Arizona, he also served as Contact Lens Lead Optometrist in a large multidisciplinary health care management practise, where he was responsible for performing complicated contact lens fittings including providing keratoconus and post-surgical specialty contact lens management. He also has worked as a Low Vision Optometrist, providing specialty exams and services to the vision impaired.

    Dr. Akerman has more than fifteen years of experience as a certified Corneal Refractive Therapy and Ortho-Keratology contact lens fitter, providing non-surgical refractive correction and myopia control to adult and pediatric patients. He also has extensive experience in refractive and ocular surgery co-management including having served as Clinical Director at a Laser Vision Correction Centre and having worked alongside Ophthalmologists in a hospital setting in Arizona.

    Dr. Akerman is an active volunteer, having traveled throughout the United States and twice to Nicaragua to provide eye exams and glasses to people living in underprivileged areas. While living in Arizona he was a member of "Icemen that Care", a volunteer group of hockey players that provide aid to children and families in need. Since moving to Milton he has remained an active member of the community, serving as Secretary of the Milton Minor Hockey Association Board of Directors for three years and receiving the President's award for exceptional volunteer service. He has also coached hockey for several seasons in addition to having coached minor baseball and lacrosse. Dr. Akerman is excited to open our new clinic in Milton and is looking forward to serving our patients and our community for years to come!

    Dr. Akerman also serves as a member of the Governance Committee for the Ontario Optometric Association.




    Kristina has been in the optometry industry since 2010 and has worked alongside Dr. Akerman for several years as a Receptionist, Optometric Assistant and Frame Stylist. Kristina has been expanding her skillset at Milton Vision to include tear film analysis and lens edging, helping us better care for our dry eye patients and provide while-you-wait glasses service! Kristina is also an experienced contact lens trainer who makes learning how to handle contact lenses a straight forward and pleasant experience. Kristina handles all aspects of the optometry clinic, and she puts patient care at the top of her list including handling insurance submissions and questions.


    Optometric Assistant


    Kiera joined our team in 2018 as an optometric assistant and has been helping our patients ever since. Born and raised in Sudbury ON, Kiera was a member of the Northern Chill Volleyball Club and the Capreol Hawks Hockey League, and she played for several sports teams throughout her high school career. Kiera moved to Milton in 2012 and worked as a turf crew member during her summers at Glencairn Golf course. She also has 2 years of experience in the retail and service industry. Kiera is a welcome addition to the eyecare industry and is excited to help provide our patients with a great experience at Milton Vision & Sports Vision Training Centre! In her spare time, Kiera enjoys traveling, reading, and hanging out with her family, friends, and dogs!
